Videogame Analysis (L.I.A.R)

Language:
The title in the back cover, and the image in the background are somewhat to do with surviving. The YOU in the title can be defined to target the buying audience, giving an effect of curiosity and the eager to play the game. The image in the background shows a man on his own which can be something similar to solidarity or loneliness. The game's ethnicity is varied as there are a mixture of races in it.

Institution:
The makers of The Last of Us are one of the best game makers in the world right now. They are the same company that made Uncharted 3 which also hit the top charts. The game company that created the Last of Us is none other than Naughty Dog. The game made itself to the top of the gaming charts if not the first. This is because of the tremendous emotion in putted in the game of the relationship between the hero and the girl, as they escape hordes of zombies/bandits to reach the Fireflies.

Audience:
This game would most likely target a mixed gender, probably more boys then girls, with a percentage of 60% boys and 40% girls. The game will appeal to mostly 14 year old's up to late twenties or early thirties, due to the emotion and action put into the Last of Us. This game is aimed at lower middle to upper middle class as it has a good storyline.

Representation:
The original design makes people wonder what is going in this game, what's the link between that young girl and the mysterious looking man? It is notable that the eye colour of the two protagonists are completely different and there looks are not similar either, meaning they are not blood related. The title is represented in a way which makes the audience think, why is the video game called the Last of Us and what does that meaning have to do with the game? As it is unusual for a normal video game.

  1. WWW: Impressive depth of analysis. Your analysis of Representation is particularly pleasing.

EBI: Your analysis was deeper – the examiner will want to know of any inferences you could make based on the evidence that was in front of you.
Action: FULLY explain all of your points, including why you think the audience is of a certain demographic and exactly what effect the colours/images/institution/reputation would have had on the target audience
